Avedon Portraits

This week, we started by watching a movie on Richard Avedon. While we watched the film, we analyzed the style and nature of the photos he took. His style for portraits included a plain white background, black and white filters, relatively close shot, and a sense of "honest intimacy" between the subject and the camera. This was an interesting project that came to a rocky start, especially trying to find a large enough white setting. I ended spending quite a bit of time on Adobe Photoshop trying to edit out wall blemishes, windows, and picture frames in order for all the attention to be focused on the subject.

  1. awesome pictures overall. My only critique is that the third picture down from the top is too posed. But besides that amazing work!

  2. Good job. You got the lighting pretty well done. Some of the pictures seem a bit posed however. Good job though.

  3. Nice photos, the lighting is very nice through most of these, catching a nice portion of the face.

  4. I really like the lighting in this because it show the details in the face really well. The only thing I would change would be maybe not posing next time. Other than that really good!

  6. Great photos! there is really cool lighting in every one. Although in your last photo Zach has his hair over his face, i think that it really captures who zach is, like hes quiet but when you get to know him he is really awesome. Good Job
